In 2000, my husband and I launched their chocolate company, Montezuma’s, with nothing more than a kitchen sink-sized machine, boundless zeal, a healthy dose of naiveté, and the lofty goal of shaking up the stale British chocolate industry with some fresh ideas. Very little has changed since that first machine, and the same innocent joy they felt in 1999 when they first set off to explore South America now greets us each morning.
As former lawyers-turned-chocolate-makers, they’ve had to endure some challenging learning curves and do a lot of re-inventing of the wheel, but they do it all because they love the process of making chocolate and because they want to share it with others in an atmosphere they like. To become Britain’s most inventive chocolate brand with a reputation far larger than their physical footprint is something they didn’t train for or even imagine in their wildest fantasies.
Their company’s long-term goal is to become the best small chocolate manufacturer in Britain. What they mean is that whenever you have a craving for chocolate, you should be able to get Montezuma’s Chocolate nearby. However, they also respect their independent, family-oriented, and accountable work ethic, as well as the short lines of communication that characterize their company both internally and externally. No amount of development can make them let go of things; on the contrary, it only makes us cling to them more desperately. Their commitment to doing business the right way means always taking into account the interests of their employees, their clients, the people in the communities they serve, and the planet itself.
Is it healthy to consume chocolate on a daily basis?
Chocolate is a guilty pleasure for many people and it’s widely accepted – making it easy to grab a sweet treat every day. But, when it comes to asking whether it’s healthy to consume chocolate on a daily basis, the answer isn’t quite as simple as you might think. Regardless of the type of chocolate you choose to indulge in, doing so regularly has been linked to obesity and health conditions such as hypertension and coronary heart disease. Because chocolate is calorie-dense and contains both fat and sugar, moderation is highly recommended. So while we strongly advocate enjoying chocolate in all its forms when the craving strikes, we recommend striking up balance by aiming to eat healthier foods on a daily basis.
Dark Chocolate
If you’re a die-hard fan of dark chocolate, you’re in luck: they offer an array of intriguing and novel flavour innovations, from dark chocolate with salted peanut butter truffle bits to the great classic combination of dark chocolate and mint. If you want to avoid dairy, you can choose from a wide variety of vegan dishes at their restaurant.
Milk Chocolate
They’ve included all of their most popular milk chocolate varieties, from milk chocolate bars with crunchy cocoa nibs and gooey butterscotch to milk chocolate with crunchy almonds and wonderfully moreish peanut butter chocolate. Try their Dark Side bar if you’re leaning toward darker chocolate. Featuring an impressive 51% cocoa, this bar is sure to please even the pickiest of chocolate enthusiasts.
White Chocolate
Helen, one of their co-founders, has a minor love for those creamy white chocolate bars. When you’ve been at the office for a while and need a little pick-me-up, nothing beats their Organic White Chocolate Bar. If you’re in the mood for a sweet treat, they highly recommend our best-selling Strawberry Champers truffle.
