Why do smartwatches need Bluetooth?

It is not possible to make phone calls using smartwatches that do not already come equipped with their own cellular connectivity. Your mobile device needs to be connected to it via Bluetooth in order for the majority of the “smart” functionality to work properly, such as receiving notifications on your wrist. This can be accomplished by pairing your device with the watch.
