Why are shoes called trainers?
We learned about the rise in use of the term “sneakers” in the United States. The term didn’t quite catch on in the United Kingdom. Plimsolls, on the other hand, evolved into what are today known as trainers. Trainers were similar to Plimsolls in that they had flat rubber bottoms that were intended to give stability and traction.
