If you are a student, a senior citizen, a family member, or just a train enthusiast or traveller, getting a Railcard is a great way to save a lot of money on train tickets in Great Britain. At a third off most fares, these small cards are a great investment; they can be paid off in as little as one or two rides. Here are the types of Railcards that are currently available and some reasons why it might be a good idea to get one.
What is a Railcard?
A Railcard is a card that can help the holder save as much as a third on the cost of taking a train within Britain. They are also available in two forms, digital and physical, and are classified according to the user’s age, marital status and other parameters. The cards are available for one year or three years and the cost, on average, is £30 for one year and £70 for three years. The Disabled Persons Railcard, on the other hand, costs £24 for one year and £54 for three years, showing that it is more inclusive for the target group.

How to Get a Railcard
The process is blissfully simple. Most Railcards can be purchased online, with the option to get a digital version on your mobile device via the Railcard app or a standard physical plastic card. Alternatively, you can buy 1-year Railcards at staffed station ticket offices if you prefer things old-school.
