History Of Casa Batlló
Casa Batlló may be found at 43 Paseo de Gracia, a route that once linked the city to the now-integrated Villa de Gracia neighbourhood. Paseo de Gracia has been the backbone of Barcelona and the home of its most significant families since 1860, when an ambitious urban design called the Cerdà design was adopted. Because of this, the street served as a promenade for people and carriages carried by horses in the 1800s, and then as a major thoroughfare for automobiles beginning in the 1900s.
The structure was initially constructed in 1877 by Emilio Sala Cortés, who was a professor of architecture under Gaudí, during a time when electric lighting was not yet available in Barcelona. Mr. Josep Batlló y Casanovas, a well-known merchant and textile industrialist with multiple Barcelona companies, bought it in 1903.
Mr. Josep Batlló delegated the task of dismantling the building to Antoni Gaudí and gave him complete creative licence. Nevertheless, the home was completely renovated from 1904 to 1906, and the demolition was subsequently ruled out, all because to Gaudí’s bravery. The architect expanded the lightwell, rearranged the inside dividers, and transformed the inside into an architectural masterpiece, all while altering the exterior. In addition to being aesthetically pleasing, the building serves a very practical purpose, which is more typical of the contemporary era than the past. Some have even detected features that predate the styles used in late-century architecture.

The family welcomed the public and showcased this architectural treasure to the globe in 1995 when they made the mansion available for events. Cultural tours of Casa Batlló have also been available since 2002, when they were timed to coincide with the International Year of Gaudí. You can participate in either activity right now, and there are regular updates to both the offerings and the content.
Casa Batlló is currently a UNESCO World Heritage site and a symbol of Barcelona; it is an essential stop for anybody interested in Gaudí’s art and the pinnacle of modernism. With over a million visitors annually, it is undeniably a top cultural and tourism destination.
