About J Parkers
In 1933, Parker Dutch Bulbs (Wholesale) Ltd. started out as a Manchester-based mail-order bulb company. The 1950s saw the addition of acreage in Anwick, Lincolnshire, to the family business, which led to its growth and expansion. In 1971, the family sold off their land and mailing list after their company was hit by a postal strike. The retail and wholesale business, which had become lucrative through reader offers, was taken over by Martin’s son Chris Parker in the early 1970s.
Paul and Daniel, who were born into the family business, joined in 1998 and went on to become directors. The firm relocated to a new Manchester headquarters in the early 1980s. Daniel became a garden designer after completing degrees in both landscape architecture and fine art. The business launched its internet in the early 2000s, completely changing the way customers place orders. In 2016 Paul was appointed Managing Director and in 2021 he was named CEO.
The business remodelled its Flixton Garden Centre in 2010, increasing revenues and adding a cafe and eatery. Construction on a refurbished garden centre and a new warehouse measuring 25,000 square feet got underway in 2015. A new nursery and 60,000 square feet of manufacturing space were added to the company’s Anwick facility in 2017 to allow for retail shipment. With CEO Paul Parker enthusiastic about continuing the business’s organic growth under the guidance of family, J. Parker’s has accomplished a 5-year growth objective in just 12 months in 2021.
